MOSIM'08 : Comité Scientifique

Comité Scientifique

EDITORIAL

The decision to start MOSIM was made in 1995, in Clermont-Ferrand France (with the support of AFCET and CNRS). Since then, the 8 following conferences have received an increasing audience from the international scientific community. MOSIM conference aims at bringing together scientists concerned with complex decision making issues, which typically involve mathematical modeling, simulation and optimization, with the objective of sharing their most recent research advances. This 8th edition of MOSIM focuses especially on "new challenges brought by the evaluation and optimization of innovative systems producing goods and/or services". Indeed, searching the best performance of such complex systems such as industrial systems, transportation systems, and healthcare systems, require the development of new scientific approaches. In addition to their intrinsic complexity, these systems interact, often through modern information technologies, and have to collaborate in the most efficient way. Hence, more efficient methodologies for the design, management and control of the resulting networks are needed. These methodologies should also be able to cope with data uncertainties and with various possible changes that can affect these systems (e.g. occurrence of disturbances, market changes, etc.). Furthermore, environmental issues must not be forgotten: our models and optimization techniques should also contribute to make production and service systems "greener" and should be opened to ethical considerations.

We can see from the papers published here that numerous authors have been concerned with these issues and have brought their own contributions. Their results concern both methodological and theoretical advances (e.g. metaheuristics, analysis and modeling techniques, combination of several types of approaches) and advances about particular types of problems, which occur in a given application area (many papers are concerned with industry, logistic and health care management).

It is important to mention that these papers have been selected following a rigorous referee process. From a total of 349 submissions, originated from 30 countries, 220 have been accepted and are published in these proceedings, which benefit from the scientific support of several sections of international scientific societies: IFAC, IEEE, EURO, EUROSIM, I4E2 and national French and Tunisian scientific organizations : GDR CNRS MACS, GDR RO, ROADEF, ASENIT, AIP-PRIMECA. The best papers selected will be considered for a peer review of extended versions for special issues of well known international journals.

We would like to thank all the authors that have submitted their work to the conference. We expect that their works will benefit from fruitful discussions during the conference. We would also like to express our gratitude to all those who have served as referees for MOSIM'10. A reading committee has worked in connection with the scientific committee to make recommendations about the paper acceptances. A two round process has been employed allowing for modifications and resubmissions of paper in order to achieve full satisfaction of the reviewers.

This conference has strongly benefited from the support of several institutions that we would like to thank: ENIM, Université Paul-Verlaine Metz, INRIA Nancy Grand Est, ESSTT and GDR CNRS MACS, GDR CNRS RO, EURO, Conseil Géenéeral de la Moselle and Chambre de Commerce d'Industries et de services de la Moselle. We have greatly appreciated all the efforts they have made to help with the organization of this international event, which has beneted from a nice collaboration between the French and the Tunisians partners.

We would like to address our warm thanks to the chairpersons of the organizing committee and to all its members, who spent so much time and energy, for their precious and efficient support.

During MOSIM'10, the decision about who will organize the next issue will be made. We would like to express our best wishes of success for MOSIM'12 and invite you to consider being there in 2012!
