Student life in Metz
Between vineyards, Roman remains, castles and historic sites (such as Robert Schuman's house), Metz, a green city, provides a pleasant living environment for its students. Just a stone's throw from Luxembourg and Germany, close to Paris by TGV, it offers interesting job prospects for young graduates.
Studying in Metz means choosing an environment conducive to study and personal development, while enjoying a living environment where you will experience a student city, a city of gardens and culture!
A passionately student city
Engineering schools, higher education establishments, campuses: in Metz, you can find places of study in many different areas (City Centre: Saulcy and Bridoux campuses, Metz Technopole: schools and universities, etc.). It's a real mix of people from all walks of life, with very different cultures and projects, creating an atmosphere of openness and diversity, in a territory on a human scale.
Plenty of affordable housing
Metz has many private student residences or those belonging to the CROUS, giving rise to rather attractive rents. Rates vary from €140 for a room to around €500 for a T2. Similarly,
the prices for a studio in the city are relatively reasonable. For a T1, count between 300 and 500 € per month
To get around, the city benefits from the Le Met' transport network. With the €25.50 monthly subscription for young people (18-26 years old), students have access to all public transport in the conurbation.
Culture and going out
Every season, the territory of Metz Métropole and its surroundings shine through concerts, shows, exhibitions and sporting events. The city has several concert halls and exhibitions such as the BAM, Trinitaires, the Arsenal and the Metz Arena. The Théâtre du Saulcy, managed by the University of Lorraine, offers tickets at 4€ for both professional and student performances. Don't hesitate to visit the Centre Pompidou Metz, one of the most visited museums of modern and contemporary French art outside Paris. Admission is free for under 26s. Even better, with the Pass-M for 18-25 year olds, enjoy unlimited and priority access to the museum's exhibitions.
For a successful evening, Metz is packed with interesting places that are very popular with local students. You will find many bars on the medieval Place Saint-Louis, Place SaintJacques, Place de Chambre. Don't miss the evenings in the hypercentre and train station clubs such as L'Endroit to let off steam on the dance floor. For lovers of salsa or Latino music, go to the Bar Latino on Thursday evenings. Metz is also home to the second largest flea market in France with 10 dates a year, an unmissable opportunity for vintage lovers.
Events
Several major events structure student life in Metz
Students in my city
Étudiant dans ma Ville was born in 2009 from a joint initiative of the City of Metz and the Messines student associations who wanted to devote special time to students at the start of the university year. On the week's programme: concerts, theatres, sports tournaments, solidarity and environmental awareness actions, visits and other sporting and cultural activities. The establishments in Messina play the game to the full by opening their doors to students free of charge. With the financial support of the Grand Est Region and in partnership with Metz Métropole and the University of Lorraine.
Technopole Games
A unique moment of sharing between local actors!
The Metz Technopole Games are a unique opportunity to bring together companies and students in an evening of sporting challenges. Cohesion will be the order of the day within each team!
This annual sports challenge evening is organised by Club Metz Technopole. For the second consecutive year, this event is part of the "Student in my city" week programme.
Many local players are involved in the implementation of the event: Metz City Council, the company Asbolu Sport, representatives of higher education institutions (Arts et Métiers Paris Tech, ENIM, Centrale Supelec, STAPS...) and representatives of companies in the area.
Gourmet Exchanges
In partnership with the CROUS (Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) and Metz Métropole, the City of Metz organises the Gourmet Exchanges operation every year. The concept is simple: families from the Metz metropolitan area invite one or more international students or researchers for a Sunday lunch. This meeting is an opportunity to share a convivial and festive moment around a good meal typically from Lorraine! This meeting allows students to learn about the French way of life (the traditions and customs of the country, the origins of French culture), to make acquaintances and to create links.
and many others : Heritage Day, Subversive Film Festival, Hop Hop Hop Festival, Passages Festival, Mirabelle Festival, Ondes messines, Saint-Nicolas, the Book in Metz, Les The Christmas Markets...
